Wale – “Ambition”

December 26, 2012 in Featured, Music, Reviews

Artist: Wale
Album: Ambition
Release Date: November 1st, 2011

Wale starts off his second solo album “Ambition,” with a track properly titled “Don’t Hold Your Applause.” As the song fades into a soft go go influenced beat produced by Tone P, the first thing we hear is the trademark “Maybach Music” sample. Off the bat, we know what we’re getting ourselves into. To someone unfamiliar with Wale, the initial response to the album might be overwhelming. But to a fan listening to his lyrics, “Tired of making money, I’m on to making history,” paints a vivid picture of what Wale means by “Ambition.”

Wale is much more then your “average rapper.” It’s not about the flashy Maybachs or the heavy gold chains (which I’m sure he doesn’t mind), it’s about making a statement and an impact on the world. To Wale his statement is his life, which he is bringing to us via his album. He has grown exponentially as an artist, working with everything he has to get to his level. Listening to tracks such as “Double M Genius” and “Legendary,” one might get the impression of a cocky rapper. Look past the initial appearance and into the heart of the music. “GQ man of the year,” Wale says, referencing his GQ cover with fellow rappers Kid Cudi and Drake. “Went away for a little, let my wisdom increase,” meaning that even after making a name for himself, Wale stayed away from the limelight to grow even more. Staying humble, he brings back his “Ambition” motto saying, “underrated that’s temporarily for the moment.”

Throughout this album Wale lyrically plays with his words, describing his success but at the same time addressing the fact the he is far from where he wants to be. This is a #GOLDen way of thinking because he will always be determined to work hard with “no days off.” “Ambition” is more then the album title, it’s a way of life. No one other then Wale himself, can say that he hasn’t made it. His passion, talent and determination already sets him apart from others. Even though his debut album “Attention Deficit” was amazing, I think when the time comes, “Ambition” will be the album that defines Wale – that is of course, until his next album drops.

MMG: Rick Ross ft. Wale & Drake – “Diced Pineapples” Music Video

October 12, 2012 in Blog, Featured, Music, Videos

Artist: Rick Ross ft. Wale & Drake
Track: Diced Pineapples
Produced By: Cardiak & T-Minus
Album: God Forgives, I Dont
Directed By: Director X

Wale definitely kills this from the get go! I can’t think of any other rapper that is as talented with their poetic skills as he is. With that said, MMG’s choice of Anguilla for the video shoot location, couldn’t have been any better. The song begins with a beautiful piano playing as shots of island landscapes and scenery are shown. The big white grandiose house is introduced, and sitting poolside in the back, is none other than the boss himself. As the song continues, we move on to a yacht serving Ciroc in a glass filled with diced pineapples. Oh yea, Drake was there too. Gotta check this out for yourself!!

Ben G Releases “My Vision” Music Video

June 21, 2012 in Featured, Music, Reviews, Videos

We had a great response after we posted about the Ben G “Cak-ill-ak Muzik” mixtape release. The young and fairly new artist from Columbia, SC is starting to gain recognition throughout the nation. WE LOVE IT! Everyday we are introduced to aspiring new artists trying to get their name out and it shows how much talent there is in the world. Shot, directed and edited by Trevor Mercer, the music video for “My Vision” tells a story of overcoming struggle. Although Ben G still has a long way to go before becoming a household name, his music and determination alone will get him far. But as he creates more music and videos, he must keep in mind that he needs to stand out in this competitive world. Once he does, “[his] Vision” will come true.

Check out the video posted above and tell us what you think. As always, don’t forget to share.

Download: Sam Lachow “Avenue Music EP”

April 3, 2012 in Featured, Music, Reviews

Yup, Sam Lachow is back at it again. I became a fan of his work when I was recently introduced to his “Brand New Bike” album. Here I am, not even a couple months later, posting yet another album available completely for free. I’m also proud to announce that Sam is the first artist to receive the Gold Star Critic “Certified Gold” tag!

The tape starts off with a track titled “Got Soul,” featuring Ariana Deboo who begins the song off by singing over a simple piano. The classy and definitely soulful intro keeps the listeners glued waiting for the beat to drop. A perfect song chosen to start off the album by giving his audience a glimpse into who he is. I can go on and on about his dope lyrics and unpredictable flow that is sure to be a hit with the college crowd, but there’s much more to Sam then just that.

I don’t think people understand exactly how talented he is. As I’ve said before, Sam Lachow not only writes his lyrics, but he produces his beats, engineers his albums and even directs his own music videos. On top of all that, this boy is only in his early 20s, meaning that he still has very far to go.

Stream the complete album below or download it from here.
