Nicki Minaj – “Pink Friday”

Artist: Nicki Minaj
Album: Pink Friday
Release Date: November 19, 2010
Star Rating: 4

One of the fastest growing artists out there. As a person on the Young Money roster, Nicki Minaj is surrounded by talented individuals like Drake and Lil Wayne. But even if she blew because she was signed by Wayne, she didn’t need anyone’s help to get to where she is now. With a long list of hits and billboard lineups, there is no arguing.

But the main thing that is impressive is how she is different from anything else out there. Her flow, style, lyrics and swag in general is unmatchable by anyone and everyone. Throughout this album, she switches between flows so many times that you feel as if you are listening to more then one artist. In songs like “Roman’s Revenge,” Minaj brings out her crazy monster style of rapping with dark beats that shows she can make songs that are also not made for radio play.

In the example of “Roman’s Revenge” we also see that she can collaborate well with many other artists including Eminem. Then in songs like “Right Thru Me” we see a different side of Nicki Minaj. In this song we find the softer side that she carries while making mainstream songs. Another song like this is called “Fly” which features her friend Rihanna. It is different from here crazy style because is is sort of motivational and uplifting. But what we see when she raps these different styles is that she can sound good on many various beats. This capability is what makes Minaj such an excellent artist. Having this talent she does exactly what she says. She rips mics at “Stadiums with Jays and Kanyes.”

Kid Cudi – “Man On The Moon 2″

Artist: Man on the Moon 2
Release Date: November 9, 2010
Star Rating: 4.5

The second installment of the trilogy starting Kid Cudi, one extremely talented individual indeed. In this second album, Cudi proceeds just as he did in the first one. He takes his listeners on a dark movie themed journey. Fans who loved his first album, is sure to love this one. Every track is filled with deep emotional lyrics that sets Cudi apart from the rest of the world. We can see his sorrows, his pain, his evil. Some can relate. That is what draws many people back to him over and over again and that is what makes me respect him as an artist. The tracks in this album are produced mainly by Plain Pat and Emile, the same as MOTM:The End of Day. Deep, dark, drowning bass sounds that drift the listeners into the same universe that we find Kid Cudi in.

Now after comparing his first two albums, lets talk about whats new. Cudi has publicly voiced that he wants to quit rap and move on to rock music. This might shock many fans and tear up supporters that will no doubt miss the amazing Kid we are so fond off. But keep in mind, talent does not fade and if he plans on pursuing a career in rock, it will be just as magical as always. The well known song, “Erase Me” featuring Kanye West for example, is already a step in that direction. Cudi has already picked up the guitar and learned to play very well indeed. In the music video for “Erase Me,” we see a rock band setup with a guitarist, bass player, and a drummer. I thought that was a creative and fun music video, proving the point that Cudi can do rock, just as well as rap.
